The Easter holiday runs from Saturday, 20 March, to Easter Monday, 29 March 2027, in every province at the same time. Easter Sunday falls on 28 March 2027.
In Steiermark, Kärnten, Tirol and Vorarlberg, 19 March, Friday, is St Joseph’s Day and a school holiday. This means that the break effectively starts on Friday in these provinces.

In the eastern provinces, classes therefore begin on Monday, 6 September 2027. In the other provinces, the new school year starts on Monday, 13 September 2027.
Additional school-free days during the school year
- All Souls’ Day (Allerseelen): 2 November 2026, Monday, in every province, directly after the autumn holiday and All Saints’ Day.

- Public holidays: 8 December, Ascension Day on 6 May 2027 and Corpus Christi on 27 May 2027 are also days off.
- School-autonomous days (schulautonome Tage): the school decides these dates itself. The number of days available during the school year depends on which day of the week 26 October falls on. In 2026, it falls on Monday, so there can be a maximum of three such days. The school will announce the dates.
