School holidays in Austria in the 2025/2026 school year

Planning childcare, family time or travel is easier when you know the school holiday dates. For the 2025/2026 school year, Austria’s holiday calendar combines nationwide breaks with regional differences, particularly for the half-term and summer holidays.

How the Austrian school holiday system works

The Austrian education system distinguishes between the following types of institutions:

• Secondary and upper schools: State and private secondary schools, as well as upper-level educational institutions with public status.
• Compulsory education institutions: Primary schools, secondary schools, special schools, polytechnic schools and vocational schools.

Most holidays are set uniformly across Austria. However, the dates of the half-term and summer holidays vary by region.

Nationwide school holidays
