Austria motorway vignette prices 2026 and 2027: digital-only system coming
Austria has announced the 2026 motorway vignette prices and colour. According to ASFINAG, the 2026 vignette will be “feuerrot”, or fire red, and will be the last traditional adhesive vignette. From 2027, Austria will use an exclusively digital motorway vignette system.
What is already known about the 2027 vignette?
- Digital-only system: The 2026 vignette is the last adhesive version. From 2027, only a digital vignette linked to the vehicle registration number will be available.
- Validity: An annual vignette is valid for 14 months, from 1 December of the previous year until 31 January of the following year. The 2027 annual vignette can therefore be used from 1 December 2026 until 31 January 2028.
- Online purchases: Annual and 2-month digital vignettes bought online are valid only from the 18th day after purchase because of the consumer right of withdrawal. If you need immediate validity, buy one at a petrol station, tobacconist or vending machine.
- 2027 prices: As of 13 October 2026, ASFINAG had not published the 2027 prices.
What changes in 2026?
During 2026, drivers can still choose between the traditional adhesive vignette and the digital vignette.
The traditional version will be available from the end of November 2025 at more than 6000 sales points operated through locations such as petrol stations, tobacconists, ÖAMTC and ARBÖ offices, and areas near the borders.
Digital purchasing is already widely used: 75% of annual vignettes are purchased digitally. ASFINAG will continue expanding its sales network over the next one and a half years so that digital and in-person purchasing remain accessible.
The transition to a digital system
According to ASFINAG, from 1 February 2027, only a digital vignette will be valid in Austria. By then, the organisation’s online and offline sales systems are expected to be fully integrated.
The digital vignette is based on the vehicle registration number. It does not need to be attached to the windscreen, and it does not need to be bought again when changing cars.
Digital vignettes are currently available at more than 3500 sales points and through the ASFINAG online Mautshop, which is open around the clock.
Austria motorway vignette prices for 2026
The vignette prices increased by 2.9% based on the harmonised consumer price index (HVPI). The new prices apply from 1 January 2026.
Passenger cars up to 3.5 tonnes
- 1-day vignette: €9.60
- 10-day vignette: €12.80
- 2-month vignette: €32.00
- Annual vignette: €106.80
Motorcycles
- 1-day vignette: €3.80
- 10-day vignette: €5.10
- 2-month vignette: €12.80
- Annual vignette: €42.70
The fire-red 2026 vignette is valid from 1 December 2025 until 31 January 2027.
